Pop'n Stage is Konami's attempt to combine pop'n music with Dance Dance Revolution. Lasting just two releases in the arcade, Pop'n Stage took the design, characters, and Pop-Kuns from Pop'n Music and the dance stages from DDR and melded them into a single game. While DDR has left, right, up, and down arrows, Pop'n Stage has the opposites on the dance stage grid: center, upper-right, upper-left, lower-right, lower-left. Also, though Pop'n Stage does have what appears to be a 2-player dance stage, due to the design of the game it only supports a single player at a time in either a six-panel mode (using the two center panels, 1P upper & lower right, and 2P upper & lower left) or a ten-panel mode. While Pop'n Stage may appeal to fans of the Pop'n Music series, it failed to catch fire in the general public and was quietly cancelled after the Pop'n Stage EX release, before it could be ported to a home system. |
