Konami's shortest-lived BEMANI title, Mambo A-Go-Go lasted just a single 18-song release in the arcades. Featuring three large bongos, each with three sensor areas (center, lower left, lower right), gameplay was reminscent of many of the other BEMANI titles. Three difficulties were available: both Easy (3 panel, with all three areas of each drum being combined into a single sensor) and Hard (9 panel, using all of each drum's sensor) utilized the drums in a standard way, while Normal (5 panel) actually combined the two, with the first drum having all three sensors active while drums 2 and 3 were a single drum-wide sensor (as in Easy mode). A number of things likely contributed to the game's early demise, including the limited song selection and the niche genre, though most likely is the virtual collapse of the BEMANI series that was happening during the time. Unsurprisingly, no home version was released. Strangely enough, Mambo's most lasting impression on the BEMANI series is that it leant some of its games to various pop'n music releases. |
