DJsyndrome is a website dedicated to the home releases in Konami's BEMANI series, including beatmania, beatmania IIDX, Dance Dance Revolution, pop'n music, GUITAR FREAKS, drummania, and more. Currently, DJsyndrome covers only NTSC releases, which includes both Japan and North America. There are no plans to cover any PAL (European) titles, which primarily is the Dancing Stage series, simply because of the lack of hardware required. Borne out of a series of text FAQs produced from 1999 to 2001 by J.T. Kauffman, DJsyndrome.com is the next step in evolution for the series. With an increasing number of titles (currently at 120+ different releases) a text-based FAQ simply could no longer handle the amount of data. These FAQs will be posted for completeness, and may be updated at some point in the future, but for all intents and purposes this website is the replacement for the FAQ series. The name DJ Syndrome comes from the marketing campaign for the arcade version of beatmania 4thMIX ~The Beat Goes On~, as it was the main tagline used in posters promoting it. This phrase has now leant itself to DJsyndrome.com, a guide to beatmania and the rest of the BEMANI series of rhythm games by Konami. While not comprehensive, it should begin to answer some of the questions that you might have about the games. Currently, the focus of DJsyndrome.com is on the games that have been released and the basic information about each. While the DJ Syndrome FAQs had a lot of song information in them, the site currently focuses on the core info about the game, such as total number of songs and how to unlock them. A note on naming conventions: The BEMANI series is full of odd naming conventions. For both journalistic and reading ease, a number of exceptions are made. Any series that is written in all lower case (e.g.: beatmania, pop'n music) is written with normal capitalization when beginning a sentence or in a headline. Links, being bolded, contain the standard capitalization. Series that are written in all upper case (e.g.: GUITAR FREAKS) are written in standard capitalization. The capitalization style is taken from the specific game logo when available; this is most applicable to GUITAR FREAKS and drummania, which started out being written as such and have changed over the years to the current GuitarFreaks and DrumMania. Unless noted, the original versions are used to represent the series as a whole (meaning that this particular series is written Guitar Freaks & Drummania, taking all the above naming conventions into account). The one exception to all of the above that I will make is in the game database, where I will do my best to have the game's title laid out as Konami intended. BEMANI will always be written in all caps. Finally, songs, artists, and genres are written with standard capitalization in almost all cases. |
